Tennis Lessons: How To Develop A Knifelike, Low Skidding, Slice Backhand

Today, I have a tip that will help you develop a knifelike, low skidding slice backhand. Many times, when I’m teaching this shot players have trouble with keeping the ball low, their slice tends to float and sit up, allowing their opponnet the opportunity to tee off. One of the teaching methods I use in this case is “exaggerate the cure”.  I’ll have the student purposely try to hit their slice backhand in the middle of net, that’s right, I’ll tell them, “go ahead, drive the ball in the net”, many times, this helps them learn, how it ‘feels’, to hit a great low skidding slice.

Remember, swing down, keep the racquet face open and your opponent will be forced to hit low skidding balls off their shoe tops.

All the best,
Tom Avery

Testimonials

  • "I am 21 and am about a 3.5 level player and have been playing since I was 12. I have used only Pro Kennex but have tried many different brands before. I absolutely love the Avery because it is amazing in every aspect. Most racquets are only strong in one particular area, but this one is strong in all."

"I recently switched from a light oversize high power racquet to your AVERY Control and it has totally changed my game. I don't push the ball anymore, but instead I can swing as hard as I want and still keep the ball in the court. I used to have tennis elbow but got rid of it when I switched to AVERY (a heavier frame protects your arm)! I love this racquet!!!! It is taking my tennis game to new a level! Thank you."
